About Bulk Beef

Have you ever thought about purchasing beef in bulk?  Let us help you learn so you feel more confident about your purchases!

So, how much beef should you plan on?  Our cattle will typically land between 1000 and 1400 pounds live weight on the chart below.  Remember, if you are getting 1/4 of a beef, divide those numbers by 4 to get the amount of packaged meat you will be getting shipped to you.

FAQ:

1)  Does Golden Hz Farms use hormones in their beef?

A) Not in our eating beef!  The only time we use hormones is in a very small group of breeding animals to sync their reproductive cycles for AI (making babies)

2) Do you use antibiotics?

A) We only use antibiotics if an animal is sick.  Just like you go to the doctor to get medicine for pneumonia, we do the same with our calves.  Usually we only have to doctor the calves over their first winter, which leaves at least 8 months that our animals are antibiotic free before entering the food chain.

3) Are your cattle grass fed?

A) Our fat cattle are actually on a grain based diet but it is much different than what large feedlots use.  Free choice hay is always offered, and we do not use silage as a feedstuff. Our ground ear feed ration is a mix of ground ear corn, oats and soybean meal.  This is fed to cattle from weaning on to finish.  We also begin adding a protein pellet supplement and cracked corn to the ration during the last 6-8 months of finish.

4) I have purchased bulk beef before, can I custom order my cuts?

A) As long as you order 1/4 a beef or more, yes you can!  Wagner Locker has a cut sheet online, and we will include that as a link in your confirmation email.  If you still aren't sure what to get or have questions, just give the locker a phone call.  They are very helpful!

5) I have never purchased bulk beef, and have no idea how to specify cuts.  What do I do?

A) Just let us order the cuts for you!  Our cut sheet specifies that steaks are cut 1" thick, and wrapped 2 per package.  We have all roasts made in 3 pound packages.  Hamburger is done 1 pound at a time, and we select some to be made into premade patties for easy burgers!  We also include items like stew meat and brisket.
